OBN Christmas Lecture: ‘Reprogramming the Genetic Code’

Professor Jason Chin, Senior Director of the EIT Generative Biology Institute, is scheduled to deliver the 2026 OBN Christmas Lecture. The presentation will focus on the pioneering topic of ‘Reprogramming the Genetic Code’.

Professor Chin is a foremost expert in engineering and synthetic biology. He currently serves as the Founding Director of the Generative Biology Institute (GBI). Additionally, he is the founder and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Constructive Biology Ltd, a company focused on applying his fundamental advances in the field. He also holds a national role as a Non-Executive Director for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology.

Prior to his current roles, Professor Chin established a highly distinguished academic career. He was a Programme Leader at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology (MRC-LMB), where he also held the post of Head of the Centre for Chemical & Synthetic Biology. His influence also extended to the University of Cambridge, where he was a Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology and a fellow at Trinity College. His groundbreaking work has earned him numerous major honors, including the Francis Crick Prize (2009), the EMBO Gold Medal (2010), and the Louis-Jeantet Young Investigator Career Award (2011). He is a member of the European Patent Office Inventor Hall of Fame, a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and a Fellow of The Royal Society.
